Papermaking Explorations with Holly Hutton
This exploratory papermaking workshop introduces participants to the world of papermaking. Students will learn how to turn plant fiber into luscious handmade paper sheets, focusing on cat tails, banana leaves, palm fiber, cotton, and agave. Students will learn how to harvest, prepare, and form basic sheets of paper with a mould and deckle, along with exploring a variety of ways to manipulate the pulp. Using a combination of hands-on and formal presentation students will learn about the endless possibilities of using papermaking techniques for bookmaking, mixed media, printmaking, and drawing, as well as its own art form. This fun 1-day class is from 9 am till 4 pm, with a one hour lunch break. Students need to bring a large plastic bag, so they can take home the paper by the end of the day.
